**Kryterion strongly recommends using a personal or non-work computer for all online proctored (OLP) exams.**

Taking an OLP exam requires downloading and installing the Secure Browser software on your device. Administrator privileges may be needed to complete this installation — which is often unavailable on corporate or managed networks. This is one of the primary reasons a personal computer is recommended.

Launching the Secure Browser alone is not enough to begin your exam. Please refer to [How to Launch an Online Proctored (OLP) Exam](https://support.kryterion.com/en_us/how-to-launch-an-online-proctored-(olp)-exam-Byr5BLJi1e) for complete step-by-step instructions. > **⚠️ Virtual Machines:** Virtual machines are strictly prohibited. Do not use VMware, VirtualBox, Boot Camp, or any other virtual environment to take an online proctored exam.

# Additional Considerations

For the smoothest exam experience, configure your security software to allow or whitelist Respondus. If you are on a work machine, reach out to your system administrator to adjust any restrictions that could interfere with the software.

In some cases, you may need to temporarily disable the following applications before launching Respondus:

*   Pop-up blockers
*   Antivirus software
*   Firewalls
*   VMware / Boot Camp
*   Skype
*   Photo Booth
*   TeamViewer

# Updating Your Secure Browser

If your Secure Browser is out of date, you will see an update prompt when attempting to launch your exam. Do not ignore this — your exam will not start until the update is complete.

Follow these steps to update:

1. Close the Secure Browser when prompted.
2. Log in to your **Webassessor** account.
3. Navigate to the **My Assessments** page.
4.  Click **Install Secure Browser**.
5. Select **Reinstall** and follow the on-screen prompts to finish.
6. Once installation is complete, relaunch your exam.

# Internet Connection Requirements

A stable internet connection is essential for a successful online proctored exam. Your connection must meet the following minimums:

* **Download Speed:** 1.0 Mbps or faster
* **Upload Speed:** 1.0 Mbps or faster
*   **Ping:** Under 200ms
*   **Jitter:** Under 50ms

Your download speed should be equal to or greater than your upload speed. If it falls short, restart your modem and router before your exam session begins.
