Japan’s consumption tax (JCT), a value-added tax or VAT, is levied when a business enterprise transfers goods, provides services, or imports goods into Japan. The JCT rate is 10% for most goods and services, including those provided by Kryterion.

Kryterion will collect and remit the Japanese consumption tax for clients using our ecommerce functionality which is accomplished through our Avalara service.  The JCT tax is required and will be charged to all candidates located in Japan.

The Japan region was activated in Avalara on June 1, 2024, and customers purchasing exams starting June 1 are now assessed the Japanese consumption tax of 10% and will see this at checkout.
