## Security Considerations Before You Begin

To ensure the best performance during your online proctored exam, configure your security software to allow Respondus before launch. If you are on a work computer, reach out to your system administrator for help with the following:

*   Whitelisting **webassessor.com**
*   Opening ports **443** and **80**
* Resolving conflicts with security applications that block **Lockdown Browser OEM** from running

Certain programs that access your camera or share your screen may also interfere with the secure browser. Close or disable the following before launching your exam (this list is not exhaustive):

*   Pop-up blockers
*   VMware / Bootcamp
*   Skype
*   Photobooth
*   TeamViewer
*   Any screen-sharing application
*   Any third-party camera application

If issues persist after addressing the above, you may need to temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software. This should only be done with caution and as a final measure. Kryterion, a trusted provider in online proctoring, recommends the following approach:

1. **Try all other options first.** Add exceptions within your existing security programs before considering a full disable.
2. **Disconnect from other networks before disabling.** If you must turn off your firewall for testing purposes, do so only after disconnecting from all other networks, just as you would when sitting for your actual exam.
3. **Re-enable your security software immediately after the session.** Once your exam ends and the secure browser closes, turn your firewall and antivirus back on right away.

**Note:** After your exam is complete, you are solely responsible for re-enabling any programs that were turned off to avoid ongoing conflicts with your device.
